[Chris would feel a lot more confident in going out if he had any way at all of defending them, but he doesn't; he used his last bullet during the Confusion event, and although he knows bullets probably wouldn't hurt a dragon at least it would've been something. But the main plan is to avoid an encounter entirely, so hopefully it will all turn out okay despite the lack of a defense.
He smiles at Sam, giving a small nod and trying to project some confidence.]
Yeah. Fortunately um, we're not too far from the stores.
[Their house is in a pretty good location, and hopefully they'll be able to get to the shops, find what they need, and get back quickly.]
I uh, don't exactly remember. The first group of us was me and Ash, and then you and Mike; I dunno which of us exactly picked the place, but I think we were just choosing the first house with enough rooms that we could find. Also something that wasn't um, up like fifty flights stories or anything, since I couldn't exactly do stairs.
[It just also turned out to be a really convenient place overall since then, even if they really don't have enough rooms anymore.
He follows her outside, also glancing around cautiously as he pulls the door shut behind them and then steps up to begin leading the way; he's more familiar with this place, after all.]
[He laughs a little at the first comment, mostly at himself, because he can't even argue with the assumption that he would avoid stairs because he hates exercise. Not like Sam's wrong, even if that hadn't been the exact reason.
He's about to explain, though, when Sam stops; he stops too, casting a quick glance around to see if there's something coming that prompted Sam to freeze, but then he hears her question.
They all really need to get on the same page about who knows what.]
Yeah, um, way early on, for a few months. Don't uh, worry about not remembering it though, there isn't a lot you'd want to.
[It had been a really bad few months, and he's kind of glad Sam now doesn't remember any of it. It's a lot better for her.]
But - how? I mean, Em told me Mike had been here before, but she didn't say anything about me.
[And when exactly would she have had time to spend months here and hop back to the night on the mountain? Surely she would have noticed that much missing time.]
I came straight here from the night on the mountain, Chris.
[He can't really answer her questions; he has ideas, and theories, but there's no way to know for certain the explanations sound crazy, even with being here.]
I just know that's what happened, and somehow it works. I think we can just... Blame magic like a whole lot of other things, here.
[Right. Magic. Sam would've been inclined to call bullshit if she hadn't seen so many unexplainable things in the short time she's been here. She shoves her hands in the pockets of her nacket, frowning slightly as she thinks hard on the implication of what Chris has told her.]
And you're sure it was really me? Not some - I don't know, body-snatcher or something?
[Chris raises his eyebrows slightly to punctuate his point, but also lighten the topic a little.]
Besides, uh, I don't think any body-snatchers or whatever would think turning into you and then coming here would be a super great plan.
[Kind of not useful for the monster or spirit or whatever it is either; this place would still suck for them. He's pretty certain that this is an issue of multiple timelines or universes or something anyway, so it's all just kind of pointless speculating.]
[Chris laughs as well, opening the door for Sam to enter the store they've just reached.]
I was just thinking that. But uh, yeah, I think all our bars for weirdness have kind of readjusted lately.
[He remembers when Sam had been here the first time and she'd asked him how bad he felt the event that was going on--being buried alive--was, on a scale of one to wendigo. Their lives have definitely gotten weird.]
[Dragons. Gods. Her dead friends all alive again. Somehow even the wendigos don't seem as strange as they were at first. Is this the new metric for normal? It makes Sam wonder what else she's going to end up getting used to, the longer she's here.]
So, did we have any special requests, or are we just picking up the basics today?
action; yay vague

Date: 2016-10-23 11:14 pm (UTC)[Said with slight teasing, since she doesn't know that Chris hurt his leg on the mountain, since he never made it back to the lodge.
Something else about what he says catches in her ears, though, and she stops in her tracks.]
Wait - I was here before?
[She knew Mike had been here more than once; Emily told her as much. This is the first she's hearing of herself making a repeat appearance.]

This shop's usually pretty good, so we can probably find enough food in here.
